Scavenger Hunt Sunday 4-13-2014

I had planned to start focusing on my writing more and not keeping up with Scavenger Hunt Sunday...but I've changed my mind. I enjoy photography and being able to share my stories, so here I go:

1. Neglected
This poor sheep has neglected her fleece all winter. Her barber is having a bit of trouble.
(If you know sheep parts and this happens to be a male--forgive me.)   ;)

2. Signs of Spring
I photographed the lovely buds on this Redbud tree on my wild edibles hike at
Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky.
The buds and flowers of this tree are edible. They are members of the legume family.

3. Last thing you bought
No, I did not purchase a pig! I bought admission for my family to the Homeplace Living History Farm at Land Between the Lakes in Tennessee. (LBL lies partly in KY and partly in TN).

 4. Shadow
The shadow of this tree's limbs create balance in this picture taken just before the
wild edibles hike at LBL's Hematite Lake--in the background you can just barely see a
bit ofwater spilling over the spillway.

 5. Four Things
Alyson felt she should be in the picture along with the four cast-iron skillets hanging on the wall. Next time, I may get her to wear the pioneer dress I made her--would make for a cute photo.

Thanks for joining me on this photographic journey. All of my pictures this week were taken at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. If you have never visited, you are missing out! Follow me or check back for future posts on LBL. We will be visiting frequently over the next months as I am researching and writing a book based in the area.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 3/30/2014

Confession: All of these photos are archives--but only from a week ago. I got into writer mode this week, and completely forgot to turn photographer mode back on. On the upside, I finished and submitted two pieces (will definitely post here if they get published), read tons about writing, plus worked a little on my novel and my blog layout. So, all in all it was a productive week, whether or not I took fresh pictures.

1. What IS that?
I didn't realize blowing the picture up would make it look so strange, but you might recognize it as peanut brittle being poured from a copper kettle at +Silver Dollar City Attractions

 2. Yum!
Enjoying a fresh warm funnel cake dusted with powdered sugar.

3. On the Road
The sun was setting behind us as we left Branson for home.

 4. On the Shelf
I love these Grease Jars from Hillcreek Pottery at #SDC.
(Look for a post later this week about grease jars and their use).

5. Bad Habit
Hi, my name's Michael and I'm an appleholic.
((Hi, Michael))
--Ok, really he was bowling for apple juice but it sure was cute.

Thank you all for looking. I enjoy hearing from you if you stop by to visit my blog. Linking up with:

Scavenger Hunt Sunday - 3/16/2014

I had taken a hiatus from Scavenger Hunt Sunday, and from blogging in general, but I am back now (I think). Here are my interpretations of this week's prompts.

1. Doorway

I feel like this is my #fail picture for this week. I had some neat ideas, but they never came to fruition, so here it is. The doorway to the bathroom. (Edit: changed my picture to sepia tone and I like it much better now).

2. Candid
Daddy put these glasses on me and now Mommy is blinding me with the flash from her camera.

2. Candid (again)
Mama, I play a mean air-guitar.

3. Open
I opened this candy bar...

 4. Look Up
I love the way trees look in the winter. There is something awesome about looking at the
bones of the tree. The intricate patterns of branches against the sky just don't exist when the trees are full of leaves.

 5. Stuffed
Mama, I'm stuffed!

I hope you enjoyed my interpretations this week. Join me again next week as I search for photographic interpretations for these prompts:

1. Leading Lines
2. Relationship
3. Good Morning
4. Together
5. Project

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 12-1-2013

Well, I haven't posted anything all week due to being busy with my new job and the holiday....but my mom always makes sure I remember to link up to Scavenger Hunt Sunday. (Thanks Mom!) Here are my interpretations this week.

1. Starts with S
Scrubs...this is what I wore to work tonight.

 2. Texture
Texture of the floor mat in the bathroom.

3. Blessing(s)

The two greatest blessings in my life!

 4. Warmth
Gas logs in the fireplace...I really like the texture here too!

 5. I Went...

I went... "Oh WOW!" when I noticed how similar my two children look as babies...the pictures really don't even do the similarities justice IMO. Wish I had pics of them posed the same in the same outfit...

Here is a recent(ish) one of them together to round it out.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday 11-17-13

Here are my interpretations for Scavenger Hunt Sunday this week.

1. Pattern
Using patterns I found here (flower) and here (hat), which I modified slightly to fit my needs, I made this hat.

2. Sunglasses
Sunglasses aren't really needed in this picture...which is good because mine are broken. :(

3. Round
Well, these cookies were round...until we dropped them on the oven door. We called them our thankful cookies...because we were thankful they didn't hit the floor!

4: Looking In (I couldn't chose between them, so there are 2).
Looking in on my Little Man in his pack and play.

Munchkin looking in the tent I made her using this tutorial. (Tent)

5. Crunchy
Little Man's newest toy sounds crunchy.

I hope you enjoyed my interpretations. Check out my link party page to see where I am linking.

The return of Scavenger Hunt Smunday!

Well, it is Scavenger Hunt Smunday again...my Sunday was super busy, so hopefully y'all will forgive me. Here are my interpretations of the items this week.

1. Table
This was the cake table at Munchkin's party Sunday...she just turned 7.

 2. I collect...
No, it's not the presents...I collect gift bags. I never toss them unless they are ripped, I just use them again the next time I give a gift (sometimes I trade with someone for different bags...especially since we mostly get girly bags...or at least until Little Man came along.)

3. Music
Archive photo: My daughter playing a dance game on the Wii (she let her older siblings use the remotes, she was just in on the fun).

4. Yes!
The best Yes! face I was able to capture at her party Sunday...I wasn't quick enough when she found the money in her card lol...that was a really good Yes! face.

5. Someone I miss.
Another archive photo. This is a picture of my younger sister just a couple of weeks before she went home to Jesus. She was my best friend, and I miss her every single day.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday November 3, 2013

Here are my interpretations for this week. Enjoy!

1. Dress Up

Munchkin dressed up as a Pop Star for Halloween. She especially loved that I let her wear make-up.

2. Candy

Candy Corn Closeup.

3. Pumpkin

I decided to take a less traditional view of the pumpkin. You wouldn't even know it was a pumpkin I think, except that I left part of it in view.

4. Spooky

I edited this picture with a red filter, and I think it turned out really cool. See the original in this post.

 5. Orange

Little Man and Grandma were both wearing orange for Halloween.

Post-It Note Clue Hunt

When I decided to begin this adventure of home-schooling, I knew there would be days when I didn't feel like doing "normal" school work, and days when Munchkin wouldn't feel like it either. That is the beauty of home-school...if you don't want to do school on Monday, you can add it back in on Saturday, or do a little extra each day to make up the difference. When we do fun activities, it gets Munchkin excited about learning, and we wind up way ahead of the game. (When this happens, we normally do not take days off, but save our days off for when life gets in the way or when we want to do something different on a "school day."

One such activity that Munchkin has really enjoyed is the Post-It Note clue hunt. It takes a bit of prep work, but it is definitely worth it. I wrote all of my clues on Post-Its and hid them around the house...each one leading to the next.

I used sight words and words that could be easily sounded out so that she could follow the clues with minimal help from me. This clue said "Dad is the man to see."

So she figured out that she had to get her next clue from Dad.

The "Look on the flag" clue led her to this one. She is doing first grade work this year and still learning to read, so we were focusing on short vowels and sight words.

"Look under your bed"

She gave me the last clue each time she found a new one so that she didn't get mixed up. All together, she had to read about 25 sentences to get to her prize at the end.

We even took the game outside!

"Look in the back of the big red truck"

Munchkin loved her prize. This was something we had already planned to buy her, not a prize just for this game. She enjoys the game whether she is playing for a big prize or a dollar store prize...or even just a hunt to find a stuffed animal she already owns.

Enjoying her bean bag chair!

Sometimes she even gets to sit in her chair while we do lessons or read together. Also, we have used this game for math facts as well. To do that one, I wrote a problem on the first sticky note, then the answer on another...and a new problem on the back of the answer to the first one. She was only doing math facts up to 10 when we did that hunt, so I used 3 different colors of sticky notes and wrote "change to green" etc when the next answer was going to be on a different color. (So we did all pink, then all green, then all blue.) Again we had about 25-30 sticky note problems.

Hope you enjoyed this learning activity. Check out my Link Parties page for a list of all the parties I link to each week.
